Are you located in Mt Cook Village?
No. We are located in Fox Glacier on the West Coast of the South Island. We are named "Mt Cook View" because our property offers some of the best unobstructed views of Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman in New Zealand, but we are on the opposite side of the Alps from Mt Cook Village.
Note: It is a 5.5 to 6-hour drive between Fox Glacier and Mt Cook Village.
How far are you from the Fox Glacier town center?
We are located on Cook Flat Road, a quiet rural setting just a 2-minute drive or a flat 15-minute walk from the main Fox Glacier township shops, cafes, and tour bases.
Do all your rooms have views of the mountains?
Our flagship One-Bedroom Cottages offer the most direct, uninterrupted views of Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman. While the mountains are visible from across the property, the Cottages were specifically designed to maximise this famous outlook.
How far is Lake Matheson from the motel?
One of New Zealand’s most photographed spots, Lake Matheson, is just a 4-minute drive further down Cook Flat Road. It’s the perfect spot for a sunset walk or a morning coffee at the cafe.
Do I need to book glacier tours in advance?
Fox Glacier is a popular destination, especially during the summer months. We highly recommend booking your heli-hikes or scenic flights in advance to avoid disappointment, as these are weather-dependent and fill up quickly.
Where can I buy groceries and supplies?
Fox Glacier village has a well-stocked General Store located just 2 minutes from the motel for all your daily essentials, groceries, and snacks. Supporting our local stores is a great way to help our small community. For a full-scale supermarket shop, you will find these in the larger regional towns like Hokitika or Wanaka.
Is there a petrol station in Fox Glacier?
Yes, there is a fuel station in the centre of Fox Glacier. We always recommend keeping your tank topped up when travelling the West Coast, as distances between fuel stops can be quite long.
